Prototype Indicative condition monitoring under active development. Not a regulatory assessment and not a substitute for national MSFD, HELCOM or OSPAR reporting.

Data sources

Every layer is drawn from published, openly licensed data. Sources are listed below with their provider, licence, and required credit. All data is aggregated and spatially clipped to each MPA boundary, which counts as a modification under the relevant licences. For the biodiversity layers, the individual CC-BY datasets behind a given site are named on that site's dashboard.

Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS)

Authoritative
Provides
Daily sea-surface temperature and chlorophyll-a, taken as spatial means over each MPA, and the 2000 to 2020 monthly baseline.
Product
Routed per MPA to the best regional product (Baltic, NW Shelf, Mediterranean, IBI, Black Sea) by location, with the global product as fallback. Each dashboard shows the product used. Multi-year reanalysis for history, near-real-time for the recent tail. Salinity and sea ice are included from the physics reanalysis where the region carries them.
Licence
Copernicus Marine Service licence. Free and open, acknowledgement required.
Credit
E.U. Copernicus Marine Service Information.

Copernicus Sentinel-2

Semi-quantitative
Provides
High-resolution (10 m) water indices and single-day imagery: red-edge chlorophyll (NDCI), turbidity (NDTI), vegetation, and surface bloom detection.
Product
Sentinel-2 L2A surface reflectance, accessed through the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (Sentinel Hub).
Licence
Free and open under the Copernicus data policy.
Credit
Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data.

EEA Common Database on Designated Areas (CDDA)

Authoritative
Provides
Marine protected area boundaries and designation metadata.
Product
Nationally designated areas (CDDA), European Environment Agency.
Licence
CC BY 4.0.
Credit
Boundaries © European Environment Agency (CDDA).

OBIS

Indicative
Provides
Curated marine species occurrence records.
Product
Ocean Biodiversity Information System. Records carry mixed per-dataset licences, so each dataset is checked first and only CC0 and CC-BY records are used.
Licence
CC0 and CC BY 4.0 only. CC-BY-NC and unknown licences are excluded. Contributing CC-BY datasets are named on each site dashboard.
Credit
OBIS.

GBIF

Indicative
Provides
Recent marine species occurrence records, broader and more current than OBIS.
Product
Global Biodiversity Information Facility. Only CC0 and CC-BY records are used, filtered to marine taxa.
Licence
CC0 and CC BY 4.0 only. Contributing CC-BY datasets are named on each site dashboard.

GBIF.org.

World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS)

Reference
Provides
Taxonomic authority used to keep only marine taxa and to flag seabirds. Used internally, not displayed as data.
Product
WoRMS classification, queried per taxon and cached.
Licence
CC BY 4.0.

WoRMS Editorial Board.

Provenance tiers: Authoritative data is suitable for assessment, Semi-quantitative layers are useful but optical and cloud-limited, and Indicative layers reflect uneven sampling effort. See the methods for how each is calculated.
